Spring Detox Time
Spring is finally here! Just like the grass turns a vibrant shade of green, our bodies and minds come back to life as well. With the lack of sunshine and exercise in the winter time, you may be left feeling a little bit sluggish and tired. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, spring is the perfect time of year to clear toxins out of our bodies and strengthen our immune systems. Here are some simple ways to do that.
1) Morning Ritual : Instead of coffee every morning, drink a glass of warm water with a slice of lemon squeezed into it. The water keeps you must more hydrated than the caffeine, and the lemon helps to flush toxins out of the body. It tastes delicious too!
2) Whole Foods Diet : Banish all sugars, refined flours, processed foods, sodas, coffee and alcohol from your diet. Instead, eat a high fiber hot or cold cereal for breakfast with unsweetened soy milk. For lunch and dinner opt for whole foods that are simple in taste and to make and keep your portions small. 3) Sip a detox tea or broth : Green tea, Peppermint tea and chicken broth are all excellent choices. Not only will they keep you full between meals, but also help to keep your digestive tract hydrated and active.
4) Herbal supplements : Add a few extra supplements to your daily multivitamin and calcium regimen. Sip on green tea, steep a few slices of fresh ginger into hot water and drink before or after meals to aid digestion, and top your salad with a tablespoon of flaxseed or walnut oil.
5) Hot Baths : Soak in a tub infused with Epsom salts and a few drops of essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus to your bath. It will help push toxins out of your skin and relax you muscles as well.
